Hartville was founded in 1997. The Hartville Group is an ASPCA Strategic Partner for pet insurance. ASPCA is an organization which has been protecting animals for over 140 years.

Sign up:
- Illness coverage, if included, begins 30 days after your effective date. Accident and wellness care coverage, if included, start as soon as your plan is effective.
- Dogs need to be between 8 weeks and 12 years old. Cats need to be between 8 weeks and 14 years old.
Cost:
- Sample costs range from $12.50 to $96.25 for dogs and from $10.00 to $76.28 for cats. Costs depend on location, pet’s age, pet’s breed and other criteria. For exact costs please use the multiple free quotes.
- Hartville pet insurance has a $100 annual deductible plus an additional $100 deductible if you choose the Continuing Care coverage option.
- You may change your cost and level of coverage at the time of renewal.
Pros:

Hartville pet insurance offers a 10% discount for multiple pet owners.
Cons:
- There are age surcharges for dogs when they reach 9 and 12 years and for cats when they reach 11 and 13 years of age. There are no surcharges for the cheapest level of coverage.
Coverage:
- There is a limit per injury from $1500 to $5000 as well as an annual certificate limit which ranges from $8000 to $13000.
- 80% of the veterinary expense, after reaching the plan deductible, will be covered and the amount will be sent within 30 days.
- Pre-existing conditions are not covered.
- A condition occurring in one plan period (year) will be considered pre-existing in the next one, unless it has been cured and not treated for at least 180 days. You may choose continuous care coverage which will make a condition covered for the lifetime of your pet unless Hartville decides not to renew your policy.
- You are free to use any licensed veterinarian.
Pros:

Cons:
- Hartville pet health insurance has a very long list of exclusions.
- Congenital/hereditary conditions are not covered.
- Veterinary costs are covered if they are considered reasonable based on average prices in your area.

- Send claims up to 180 days after a treatment began.

- The veterinarian may file a claim on behalf of the pet owner.

Cancelling:
- You may cancel the policy by returning it to Hartville or by notifying them of your decision in writing.
Pros:
- There is a 30 day period in which you can cancel and have your first premium refunded if you haven’t filed any claims.

- Hartville pet insurance may choose not to renew your policy for any reason. |
